19th century

Type of object:

After Wallachia and Moldavia entered under Ottoman sovereignty and the Ottoman Empire became their main commercial partner, a series of Ottoman measures of mass and weight were adopted, such as the “oka” (1.282 kg) or the “kantar” (56.449 kg). When in 1864 the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture decreed the introduction in the United Principalities of the metric system, all the measures used in the past were abolished.
