La Péri is a fantastical ballet in two acts with the scenario written by Theophile Gautier and the music by Burgmüller. This ballet, first performed in 1843, brought the audience to a grand Egyptian palace. Théophile Gautier dreamt of visiting Egypt, where his friend Gerard de Nerval had been living and sending him details to help him make the ballet more realistic.
