Height 74 cmWidth 91.5 cm
This black-blue fragment of shawl is decorated with tapestry bands woven with kufic inscriptions and highly stylized human figures, quadrupeds and birds. The overall stylization is reminiscent of Coptic textiles but is typical of the Fayyum area in Upper Egypt, which is attested by Muslim writers as specializing in the weaving of woollen fabrics.
