Gilt silver raised
In its form this tunkard repeats Persian works from the fifteenth century. The richly figural decoration is reminiscent of decorative vignettes in book illumination, the very feature that endows the jug a special status within the group of Ottoman works in silver, which normally bear solely ornamental decoration.
