Description:

Steam engines carried a great variety of goods in the 1830s. This English cartoon imagines the chaos the widespread use of collective and individual carbon-fuelled transport systems would bring (pollution, noise, cumbersome, etc.) to one of London's great arteries, Whitechapel Road. These vehicles provided fashionable services such as on-board coffee.
