Early loom weights found in the ancient city of Assoss, today known as Behramkale, a small historically rich town in the Ayvacık district of the Çanakkale Province, Turkey. These provide evidence the textile industry existed in the region since the Chalcolithic Period and the Bronze Age. Loom weights prevented tangling by weighting to give tension on individual yarns to enable weaving.
